Estate Notes

Contino's Rioja Reserva 1985 is a gorgeously intense, rich, benchmark Rioja from a historic vintage.

Winemaker Jesus Madrazo runs Contino with the drive and commitment of the world's best producers and the creative talent to match. Madrazo handles and vinifies each parcel of grapes from his 62 hectare estate on the left bank of the River Ebro separately in order to showcase the qualities of each terroir.

Contino was created by Compagna Vinicola del Norte de Espana (CVNE), which itself was established in the 19th century by two brothers from the Real de Asua family, and has been at the heart of the Rioja scene ever since, combining tradition and history with innovative approaches. Today, it is renowned for its modern style Riojas under the control of the fifth generation of Real de Asuas.

“Elegant, dense and concentrated, with lots of cherry, spice and tobacco aromas and flavors and echoes of anise and smoke on the long finish.” Wine Spectator
