Estate Notes

Clarendon Hills' Astralis is the flagship of Clarendon's Shiraz range, and the 2007 vintage was purchased in its original case.

Clarendon Hills, situated 25 miles south of Adelaide, was established by Roman Bratasiuk in 1989, and in little over ten years the estate has risen to the forefront of the Australian wine industry.

Its rapid rise to stardom can largely be attributed to low-yielding 70-year-old vines and Roman's aim  to make the highest quality wines the world over. Grapes are hand-pruned and hand-picked, and wines are matured in imported Burgundian barriques and bottled without fining or filtration to capture the individual vineyard character.

"Clarendon Hills’ flagship is the 2007 Syrah Astralis. It is an exemplar of what old vines and a great terroir can achieve in a less than great vintage. Aromas of pain grille, pencil lead, tar, underbrush, meat, licorice, and blackberry lead to a burly, masculine version of Astralis. It has tremendous grip, plenty of fine-grained tannin, layers of savory fruit, and 10-12 years of aging potential."

“Rich and expressive, playing its gorgeous blackberry and currant fruit against notes of licorice, black pepper and charred meat, lingering effortlessly against refined tannins. Displays impressive depth and precision. Syrah.” Wine Spectator
