Estate Notes

Clarendon Hills' Astralis is the flagship of Clarendon's Shiraz range, and the 2006 vintage was rated 99 points by eRobertParker.com!

Clarendon Hills, situated 25 miles south of Adelaide, was established by Roman Bratasiuk in 1989, and in little over ten years the estate has risen to the forefront of the Australian wine industry.

Its rapid rise to stardom can largely be attributed to low-yielding 70-year-old vines and Roman's aim  to make the highest quality wines the world over. Grapes are hand-pruned and hand-picked, and wines are matured in imported Burgundian barriques and bottled without fining or filtration to capture the individual vineyard character.

Reviews

"The flagship of Clarendon Hills is the 2006 Syrah Astralis Vineyard. It is holding more in reserve but when it has fully blossomed in another 10-15 years my score may appear conservative.

"The 2006 Syrah Astralis Vineyard is more reticent than its peers. It reveals a splendid nose of toasty oak, crushed rock, Asian spices, violets, blackberry, and blueberry compote. It is tightly wound but impeccably balanced. Full-bodied, opulent, and intense, it will evolve for a minimum of a decade and provide pleasure through 2036. It is an exceptional achievement." eRobertParker.com

“A big wine, but amazingly supple, graceful and pure, offering cascades of wild blueberry, black cherry and plum fruit that play against spices such as cardamom, clove and black pepper. It's all seamlessly integrated with fine tannins and enough creamy oak to complete the picture.” Wine Spectator
