Estate Notes

Château Margaux 1995 was one of the finest wines of this excellent Bordeaux vintage, rated 100 points by Wine Spectator, and purchased in its original wooden case.

Margaux is one of Bordeaux's most strikingly elegant châteaux. Yet, despite its status, it has a wonderful family feel, lacking the pretension and snobbery that enshrouds other elite Bordeaux châteaux. The key behind Margaux's approach is the partnership between owner Corinne Mentzelopoulos and the long-standing winemaker Paul Pontallier, and there is a great team ethic from the vineyard workers right through to the management.

Margaux's engaging personality is also reflected in its wines - renowned for being rich and opulent.

"This still broods seriously, with dark plum, currant and blackberry fruit, studded with charcoal, singed tobacco and cedar notes and backed by a serious grip of roasted earth. The gorgeously long finish is driven by old-school tannins, with the smoldering edge going on and on. A brick house of a Margaux, with more charcoal than graphite, more austerity than elegance and more power than refinement." Wine Spectator
