Estate Notes

Château Lafite Rothschild's 1996 was rated 100 points by and was purchased in original wooden cases.

Visiting Lafite Rothschild is always a highlight of our Bordeaux field trips. Unlike certain other growths, Lafite Rothchild's wines always live up to its reputation (even in tricky years), and it is the most consistent of Bordeaux's first growths.

Lafite Rothschild is currently under the guidance of Baron Eric Rothschild and the down-to-earth winemaker Charles Chevalier who has has positioned Lafite Rothschild at the forefront of the Bordeaux wines. There is now little to no application of chemical fertilisers and very sparse use of organic fertiliser.

"Opaque purple/black colour. Just an incredible nose: blackberry, roasted herbs, pain grille all with brilliant definition. Absolutely stunning. The palate is very backward with firm, masculine tannins. Perfect acidity. Dense, earthy black fruits, minerals with a touch of black truffle developing. Incredible concentration and a perfect wine that marries power and finesse. Very complex. Brilliant, but a long-term wine."
