"The 2018 La Gurgue is rich, deep and fleshy, with quite a bit more density than is the norm. Ripe red berry/plum fruit, spice, cedar, wild flowers and tobacco develop in the glass, but it is the wine's sheer textural richness that stands out most. Mildew was especially severe here, with yields of just 12 hectoliters per hectare. I can't wait to taste this from bottle." Antonio Galloni

Château La Gurgue is a benchmark Margaux estate, which shares favourable terroir characteristics of its illustrious neighbour, Château Margaux. La Gurgue is run by Claire Villars-Lurton, under whom it has become very much a property to keep an eye on, and a relative bargain in Margaux terms.

What impressed us was the richness of the creamy fruit. Although quite jammy there is excellent freshness to balance that off and the tannins are ripe and smooth. Not a complex wine but very well made and if priced correctly it could be part of your regular wine consumption in a few years.
