Estate Notes

Château l'Eglise Clinet 2005 is an exceptional right bank Bordeaux from a great Bordeaux vintage.

Eglise Clinet is one of the least known of Pomerol estates due to its size, yet ranks amongst the finest estates of Pomerol. Its vines (averaging 40 years old) produce typically fat, juicy Bordeaux wines of uncommon generosity. Winemaker Denis Durantou, who has been making wine here since 1982, has brought Eglise Clinet to the pinnacle of Pomerol producers with consistently stunning wines, yet you wouldn’t know it from his jovial, engaging, down-to-earth attitude.

Gazing across their vines to the iconic Pomerol church, his château is set in absolute peace and tranquillity (a quaint, walled cemetery being his neighbour!), and it is easy to see why he has become so attached to this boutique estate on Pomerol's plateau.

“Among the most saturated in color of all the 2005 Pomerols (which is saying something), this wine has a spectacular nose of licorice, mulberry, blackberry and sweet blue fruits. The new oak is completely hidden, the wine full-bodied, multi-layered and just stunning. The purity, richness and skyscraper-like mouthfeel are incredible. Give it another 5-10 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 30+ years.” Robert Parker

"Fabulous aromas of blackberry, tobacco, black olive and brown sugar follow through to a full body, with incredibly velvety tannins that go on and on and caress the palate for minutes. Shows class and complexity. Stunning. The greatest young wine ever from this producer." Wine Spectator
