Estate Notes

Château Kirwan, 2009 comes from a great Bordeaux vintage - a big, powerful Margaux style.

Château Kirwan's vinaes are based on a mix of gravel/sand/limestone soils at one of the highest points of the Margaux appellation. In 2016, Kirwan renovated their winemaking facilities, with the new design by the great French architect, Guy Tropres. In doing so, they replaced old stainless steel vats with new tulip-shaped vats of various sizes to allow for parcel by parcel vinification, to let their terroirs really shine through.

Reviews

“A big, powerful Margaux that should age for 20+ years, this inky purple-colored wine exhibits notes of spring flowers intermixed with blackberries, raspberries and cassis. Some lead pencil shavings and toasty oak are also present in this powerful yet at the same time very pure, textured, full-throttle Kirwan. It needs about 5-7 years of cellaring and will be among the longest-lived wines of the vintage.” eRobertParker.com

“Ripe and mouthfilling, but with fresh acidity harnessing the core nicely, keeping the dark plum, blackberry and sage notes wound up, while lilac, sandalwood and black tea fill in on the finish. Shows lovely mouthfeel.” Wine Spectator
