Estate Notes

Château Haut-Bailly 2005 was purchased in its original wooden case and comes from a great Bordeaux vintage.

Proprietor Robert Wilmers and general manager/winemaker Veronique Sanders have done an extraordinary job at Haut-Bailly, which has now become one of the superstars of Bordeaux as recent vintages have admirably demonstrated.

Many experts consider the wines of Haut-Bailly to be on a par with some of the great growths of the Médoc, but with a much smaller price tag.

Haut-Bailly's wines tend to be amongst the most lightest, elegant and charming of the Pessac appellation, were in excellent shape, the Château itself needed a new roof and refurbishment, and Wilmers provided the investment to restore the dwelling to its former glory.

“The 2005 Haut Bailly is rapidly turning into a glorious wine. You instantly fall in love with the purity on the nose, luscious red cherries, wild strawberry and blueberry. This is still youthful and beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a structured opening like many in this vintage. It exerts a gentle grip in the mouth, quite tensile and linear and perhaps just tightening up a tad toward the finish. It is biding its time, but it will repay those who cellar this outstanding 2005 for another four or five years.”
