Château l'Eglise Clinet 2014 is a rich, full-bodied Pomerol from a good Bordeaux vintage.
Château l'Eglise Clinet is one of the least known of Pomerol estates due to its size, yet ranks amongst the finest red wine estates of Pomerol, and its vines produce typically fat, juicy Bordeaux wines of uncommon generosity.
The sadly now late winemaker Denis Durantou, who had made fine red wine here since 1982, brought l'Eglise Clinet to the pinnacle of Pomerol producers with consistently stunning wines, putting his entire soul into the estate. Denis was a passionate, jovial, down-to-earth winemaker and will be sorely missed across Bordeaux.
Gazing across Clinet's vines to the iconic Pomerol church, the château is set in absolute peace and tranquillity, and it is easy to see why Denis became so attached to this boutique estate on Pomerol's plateau.
"It has a very pure bouquet with blackberry, myrtle, a touch of iris and a touch of garrigue (actually reminiscent of fynbos, the wild South African shrubland). The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a silver bead of acidity, wonderful precision and beguiling purity. This is an outstanding Pomerol for the vintage from Denis Durantou, sophisticated and classy, yet the bottom line is quintessentially Pomerol." robertparker.com
