Estate Notes

Château Durfort Vivens 2005 is a great value second growth Margaux, which was purchased in its original case and is in excellent condition; a wonderful opportunity to taste this great Left Bank vintage.

Château Durfort-Vivens owes its name to the Durfort de Duras, a powerful family in the south west of France that came to Margaux in the 14th century, and in 1824, the name of the Viscount of Vivens was added. This estate has been owned by the Lurton family since 1961, and has been underperforming until Lucien Lurton's son, Gonzague, took over, since which it has undergone a renaissance, including a gradual conversion to biodynamic farming.

Reviews

"Good full red-ruby. High-pitched aromas of black fruits, licorice and burnt cinders; quite primary and grapey. Moderately sweet and youthful, with noteworthy concentration to the currant and licorice flavors. Not yet complex, but there's plenty of underlying structure here for aging." Stephen Tanzer
