Estate Notes

Château Cos Labory produced a great value Bordeaux red from the stunning 2005 Bordeaux vintage.

This 18 hectare estate barely warranted its fifth growth status in the latter half of the 20th Century. However, in the 1990s the Audoy family began getting the basics right, and this once massive underachiever is now producing rich, muscular, tannic wines that merit its status.

The wines of Cos (lit. stony hill) also tend to maturte much more rapidly than its more famous neighbours, with a much more conservative price tag to boot. So if you are looking for good value growth Claret, Cos-Labory is a very good option.

"One of the finest wines I have tasted from this estate, the 2005 Cos Labory exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue, aromas of road tar, blackberries, creme de cassis, forest floor, smoke, and graphite, medium to full body, and abundant tannin. It is a complete, dense effort with high tannins in the finish. Once the tannins melt away, it should represent an outstanding example of the vintage." Robert Parker

"Saturated medium ruby. Slightly reduced aromas of blackberry, cassis, kirsch, menthol, black olive and shoe polish; a bit inexpressive today. Then broad, ripe and sweet, but with a firm spine of acids and tannins giving shape and thrust to this very young wine. Finishes with broad, serious tannins and noteworthy power and persistence. A very good showing." Stephen Tanzer
