Château Capbern 2014 is the second vintage of this wine after the dropping of Gasqueton from its name, which arose after the sale of the Calon-Ségur stable by the Gasqueton family in 2012, following the death of matriarch Denise Capbern-Gasqueton in the autumn of 2011. It was purchased in its original wooden cases.

Fortunately, since then the new owners, French insurance giants Suravenir, have quietly and astutely invested in strengthening and supporting the team chez Calon, notably the hard work, dedication and vision of the hugely gifted technical director Vincent Millet, to take their wines to new heights across the board and Capbern as well as Calon are now widely regarded as two of the smartest buys each vintage offering tremendous quality, finesse and breeding married to that rare beast in Bordeaux of relative value for money!

Heady aromas of blackberry, black current, cassis. Rich sweet ripe dark fruit flavours with a hint of cocoa bitterness, tannin are supple and the juicy acidity creates a long and satisfying finish. Not massively complex but good weight and structure and hugely satisfying. Will drink well over the next 5 to 7 years.
