Estate Notes

Château Calon-Ségur 2006 was purchased in its original wooden case and is in excellent condition.

Château Calon-Ségur's wines are capable of challenging its more illustrious neighbour Château Montrose: although more traditionally restrained in style terms.

Calon-Ségur's heart emblem emanates from the latter half of the 20th century, when the Marquis Nicolas de Ségur, the 'Prince of Vines', who already owned Lafite and Latour, took control and declared: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart belongs to Calon."

The harvest at this estate was relatively late for the vintage (September 26-October 15), and approximately two-thirds of the production made it into the final blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot. The 2006 is highly successful, as Madame Gasqueton said, no doubt because of the de-leafing and crop-thinning done throughout the summer.

"A blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2006 Calon Segur is an elegant, classic effort that represents about 60% of their total production. Deep ruby, with forest floor, cassis, black cherry, and soil undertones in both the aromas and flavors, this is a medium to full-bodied wine. A success for the vintage, it exhibits fine density, moderately high but sweet tannins, and alluring texture, and fine purity." Robert Parker
