Estate Notes

Château Calon-Ségur 2006 was purchased in its original wooden case and is in excellent condition.

Calon-Ségur's heart emblem emanates from the 17th century, when the Marquis Nicolas de Ségur, the 'Prince of Vines', who already owned Lafite and Latour, took control and declared: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart belongs to Calon."

More recently, Calon-Ségur had been under the iron grip of Madame Capbern-Gasqueton, a great legend of Calon-Segur and Saint-Estèphe, who passed away in 2012. Today, Today, Château Calon Ségur is owned by the Suravenir company, a subsidiary of the banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa headed by Jean-Pierre Denis. (The insurance company joined forces with the Videlot group.)

"A blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2006 Calon Segur is an elegant, classic effort that represents about 60% of their total production. Deep ruby, with forest floor, cassis, black cherry, and soil undertones in both the aromas and flavors, this is a medium to full-bodied wine. A success for the vintage, it exhibits fine density, moderately high but sweet tannins, and alluring texture, and fine purity." Robert Parker
