Château Bel-Air la Royère 2012 is drinking beautifully.

Château Bel-Air la Royère is a charming farmhouse perched on one of Blaye's rolling hills with sweeping views over this right bank Bordeaux district which offers some great fine wine values. Under Xavier and Corinne Loriaud, Bel-Air has risen to the top of Blaye's ladder, although they are certainly not shouting it from their hilltop. It is always a pleasure to visit the estate on our annual field trip

They say that fine red wines often reflect the personality of their growers and that is certainly true of this unpretentious boutique operation that produces wine for love as much as making a living. Unusually for Bordeaux, 25% of the blend is Malbec, which adds unusual body, depth and spice to the blend.

"A potential sleeper of the vintage...possesses excellent fruit, plenty of ripe plum, berry and strawberry notes and a hint of underlying earthiness. Its plump, charming style will have many fans if drunk in its first 3-5 years of life." robertparker.com

"...a plummy and silky expression of Bordeaux, a little coffee and cream, dense fleshy plum and a light pencil-shaving note too. In the mouth the creaminess of the fruit, plush tannin and texture add up to a fairly straightforward, but nevertheless delicious and balanced glass of quality claret drinking well now." Tom Cannavan

Intense rose and violet, fresh cedary blackcurrant, kirsch, refined torrefied spice and tobacco leaf, and fine underlying depth and minerality. Perfectly formed and balanced palate, concentrated without heaviness, with taffeta layered tannins showing fruit and spice in harmony with fine mineral depth, lightly macerated and creamy on the development, and long and aromatic in the finish.
