Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest and one of the most renowned red wine producing villages in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits district. Classic Gevrey-Chambertin is renowned for its richness, full body and tannic structure, accounting for some of the finest, most long-lived Pinot Noirs the world over.

The origins of Gevrey-Chambertin derive from 1847, when Gevrey appended the name of the prestigious vineyard, Chambertin (named after the field of the monk Bertin). At the top end of Gevrey-Chambertin are nine Grand Crus, including Charmes-Chambertin Mazoyères-Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Ruchottes-Chambertin and Griottes-Chambertin. The best premier crus include Clos Saint-Jacques and Les Cazetiers, and below this are the generic appellations of Gevrey-Chambertin and then the Côte de Nuits.

Gevrey-Chambertin’s Grand Crus generally cellar well for 10-25 years, Premier Crus for 6-20 years, and village wines from 5-10 years.
