Estate Notes

Castelli Martinozzi's Brunello is getting better with each vintage under the expert supervision of Paolo Caciorgna and the dedication of Cesare Castelli’s grandson, Federico, maintaining a traditional style with modern focus.

Brunello is made solely from a Sangiovese clone, Sangiovese Grosso (aka Brunello or the little dark one because of the brown colouring of its skin). Brunello wines are typically big and powerful with great structure and powerful tannins that ensure longevity in bottle.

Martinozzi is a rising star of this famous style, and is relatively great value-for-money in today’s terms. The ancient farm of Castelli Martinozzi sits in the astonishingly beautiful Tuscan hillside. Its mixture of vines, olive groves and woods provide an ideal microclimate, which guarantees good quality wine, even in trickier years.

"Young and still a bit shy, this slowly reveals classic varietal aromas of wild berry, blue flower, tilled earth, dark spice and a whiff of new leather. The vibrant palate offers structure and elegance, delivering juicy wild cherry, strawberry, pepper, licorice and pipe tobacco framed in bright acidity and firm, refined tannins. Give this time to unwind and fully develop." Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast

"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino delivers a powerful bouquet with warms notes of spice, leather and tobacco backed by black fruit, plum and dried currant. You definitely feel the heft and importance of the 2010 vintage in terms of the nose..."
