Estate Notes

Carruades de Lafite is the second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild and comes from fruit grown in perfect conditions from one of the greatest ever Bordeaux vintages.

Visiting Lafite Rothschild is always a highlight of our Bordeaux field trips. Unlike certain other growths, Lafite Rothchild's wines always live up to its reputation (even in poor years), and it is the most consistent of first growths.

Lafite's 2005 vintage was made under the guidance of Baron Eric Rothschild and the down-to-earth winemaker Charles Chevalier. There is little to no application of chemical fertilisers at this grand first growth château and very sparse use of organic fertiliser.

“Good deep red. Pungent aromas of currant, cherry skin, leather, graphite, olive and flowers. Suave, minerally and penetrating, with lovely energy and floral lift. Not at all a fleshy style but classic, vibrant and firmly built, finishing with excellent lift.” Stephen Tanzer

“...shows much of the character of its bigger sister, with loads of red and black currant fruit, spice box and earth. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins...precise, pure and seductive wine...” Robert Parker

“Has coffee and chocolate aromas, with hints of ripe fruit. Medium-bodied, with soft tannins and a fruity, plummy, milk chocolaty aftertaste.” Wine Spectator
