Bordeaux 2015

2015 was an excellent Bordeaux vintage, and the best since 2010, but it is a variable vintage between appellations and producers, with some great wines made on the Right Bank (classically styled, rather than big and bold), some very good ones, and quite poor due to the erratic weather. On the Left Bank, Margaux was the pick of the appellations, with great consistency across the board, while Saint-Estèphe, Graves and Pessac-Léognan also performed well generally. In Paulliac and Saint-Julien, it was more of a mixed bag, with some truly brilliant and poor wines made.

A really hot early summer was brought to a halt by a cooler, wet end to the growing season and so vineyard management was tantamount to success. Those that succeeded made wines of purity, precision and elegance, with fresh, concentrated fruit and stunning balance. Those that were less successful made big fruit bombs with high acidity.

Careful selection is key.
