Estate Notes

Bodegas Aalto, Ribera del Duero, 2005 is an old vines (40-80 years old) Tempranillo crafted by winemaker Mariano García Fernández who was formerly Technical Director at Vega Sicilia.

Mariano Garcia Fernández and Javier Zaccagnini founded Aalto in 1999 with the goal of producing Ribera reds of balance and complexity, redolent of their terroirs than a preconceived profile. Mariano strictly controls the yields and his philosophy is very much one of minimum intervention; coaxing the maximum expression of the terroir in each plot. His wines combine power and structure with elegance and complexity. Harvesting is done by hand.

Reviews

"...a deep purple color with an enticing nose of wood smoke, bacon, floral notes, spice box, and blackberry. This leads to a powerful, layered, intense wine already beginning to show complex flavors." eRobertParker.com

"Opaque purple color. Intensely perfumed nose displays spicy dark berry and floral character, with zesty minerals and black tea adding complexity. Pliant blackberry and cherry flavors are impressively fresh, becoming deeper and sweeter with air. An admirably balanced wine, playing depth against vivacity and finishing with outstanding clarity and length. This is the most elegant example of this bottling I've tasted." Josh Raynolds
