Estate Notes

Artadi's Vina El Pison, 2001 is a single vineyard wine planted by Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle's grandfather from just 2.3 acres in 1945. Only 300 cases are made.

Artadi's wines, produced from a co-operative of 13 growers, are amongt the finest producers in Rioja today. Winemaker Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacaille produces Rioja of heady opulence through minute attention to detail at every stage of the vineyard and winemaking process.

“El Pison is a 100% Tempranillo cuvee produced from a single vineyard planted in 1945. The soil is pure limestone, yields are a lowly 18-22 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine is aged for 18-24 months in French oak. The potentially perfect 2001 El Pison has more of everything. While it possesses an extraordinary flavor intensity, it remains light on its feet." Robert Parker
