Estate Notes

1990 was a great Tuscan vintage, a traditional year which particularly suited the Sangiovese grape.

Marchesi Piero Antinori’s Tignanello is situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, with a reputation for producing modern styled Super Tuscan reds.

Tignanello was in part set up to dispel the appalling reputation Chianti had got itself into in the 1970s. However, the hugely respected Antinori family has a distinguished history of winemaking and banking in Tuscany dating back to the 13th Century – that's 26 generations!

“Pale garnet-brick. Intense gamey / savoury aromas with an undercurrent of dark cherry jam, fresh cracked black pepper and a pleasant hint of mushroom. The palate reveals lots of life left in this wine giving a crisp backbone of acid and a medium+ level of finely grained tannins. Good concentration of dried fruit flavours, a pleasant savoury meatiness and some spice. Very long finish”
