Estate Notes

Antinori Solaia 2012 was purchased in its original wooden case.

Solaia is Antinori's flagship wine, with a worldwide following. Six hundred years of the Antinori's family winemaking skills and traditions have gone into making the Solaia (lit. the sunny one), which is drawn from carefully selected grapes from the vineyard of the same name.

Aged in 100% French oak and bottled unfiltered to preserve the quality of its fabulous grapes and uniquely supreme soils, this is about as serious as Tuscany gets.

"The 2012 Solaia is the ultimate comfort wine: It serves as a beautiful monument to the potential of Italian wine. Let me give you some context. The nose is redolent of dark berry, crushed mineral, plum, spice and touch of pepper. The wine is integrated and seamless, but it speaks with a strong and articulate voice."

"Another intense, tightly-wound wine, the 2012 Solaia is likely to require a number of years in bottle before it is ready to drink. Graphite, smoke, plums, black cherries, rose petal and mint meld together effortlessly in the glass. Here, too, the style is all about grace and finesse. The 2012 Solaia is going require patience, but all the elements are in the right place." Antonio Galloni
