Estate Notes

Antinori's Guado al Tasso 2008 comes from a very good Tuscany vintage.

Antinori's empire comprises 10 estates in Tuscany and Umbria alone and boasts a distinguished history in winemaking and banking dating back to the 13th century. Twenty six generations on, the family has built a reputation for producing top-flight Super Tuscan wines with respect for their winemaking heritage, whilst not letting it stand in the way of innovation and technology.

Guado al Tasso (lit. Badger's Ford), takes its name from the estate where this Bordeaux inspired wine is produced. It is situated on a beautiful plain in Maremma on the Tuscan coast, south-west of Florence, called the anfiteatro bolgherese due to the fact that the hills enclose the plains overlooking the sea forming a natural amphitheatre.

“The 2008 Guado al Tasso is once again fabulous. In fact, it may be Tuscany's most improved wine over the last few years. Firm, vibrant tannins support expressive layers of dark fruit, plums, cherries, sage, espresso and mocha. The wine shows fabulous detail and nuance in a translucent, totally seductive style, with tons of focus, drive and verve. It is a striking wine that will be a joy to follow over the coming years.” Antonio Galloni

“This is really hitting its stride, with cherry, black currant and spice flavors melding with the bright acidity and lively tannins. Builds on the palate to a fresh aftertaste of mineral and spice.” Wine Spectator
