Estate Notes

Antinori's Guado al Tasso 1996 was purchased in its original wooden cases.

Antinori's empire comprises 10 estates in Tuscany and Umbria alone and boasts a distinguished history in winemaking and banking dating back to the 13th century. Twenty six generations on, the family has built a reputation for producing top-flight Super Tuscan wines with respect for their winemaking heritage, whilst not letting it stand in the way of innovation and technology.

Guado al Tasso (lit. Badger's Ford), takes its name from the estate where this Bordeaux inspired wine is produced. It is situated on a beautiful plain in Maremma on the Tuscan coast, south-west of Florence, called the anfiteatro bolgherese due to the fact that the hills enclose the plains overlooking the sea forming a natural amphitheatre.

“An intense, extremely well-structured Tuscan red, showing intense Cabernet character, with currant, spice and mint aromas and flavors. Full in body, with loads of silky tannins and a long, long finish. Finest Guado Al Tasso ever.” Wine Spectator

“Good medium ruby, less saturated than the 1997. Expressive aromas of herbs and Mediterranean brush, with reasonably harmonious oak. Plenty of cassis and blackberry intensity and character, but slightly tough, with a grittiness of tannins. Far from ready today but offers plenty of potential for development.” Daniel Thomases
