Achaval Ferrer Quimera 2016
"...bold array of richly ripe dark plums and blackberries with assertive, spicy oak influence across bright red berries...concentrated dark-plum flavors." James Suckling

Achaval Ferrer's 2016 Quimera vintage is a rich, yet elegant and refined blend of pure Mendoza fruit.
It is matured in small French oak barrels, which help to fully express the fruit, which is selected for this prestigious blend just hours before picking by winemaker Roberto Cipresso - to ensure that only the finest, ripest berries go into this legendary Argentinean wine.
Achaval Ferrer was established in 1998 by a group of Italian/Argentine friends who wanted to deliver high quality wines that showcased the country's great soils and climate for vine growing, moving away from its reputation for mainly mass-market wines. It has now grown to be one of Argentina's finest wine producers with a brilliant winemaking team, including legendary Tuscan winemaker Roberto Cipresso, and is highly regarded for its limited production wines which are made in the vineyard, not the cellar.
"This offers a bold array of richly ripe dark plums and blackberries with assertive, spicy oak influence across bright red berries and a sweeping build of tannins that hold deeply embedded and concentrated dark-plum flavors." James Suckling
"Dark medium ruby. Aromas of cassis, licorice, violet, bitter chocolate and spicy oak. Suave, energetic and light on its feet, offering lovely breadth and definition to its dark berry and mineral flavors; a slight herbal element (a touch of peppery stems?) adds complexity without coming off as vegetal. This savory, classically dry blend finishes with well-integrated tannins and sneaky rising length. A very successful, sophisticated wine from this cool year." Stephen Tanzer
