Estate Notes

Achaval Ferrer’s 2015 Malbec is the epitome of this great Argentinean style: rich, juicy, concentrated and elegant.

The fabulously pure fruit yields from old vines and spends nine months in one-year-old French oak to add complexity. It is unfiltered and a true expression of Argentina’s wonderful soils. If you love Malbec, we're confident that this will blow you away.

Achaval Ferrer was established in 1998 by a group of Italian/Argentine friends who wanted to deliver high quality wines that showcased the country’s great soils and climate for vine growing, moving away from its reputation for mainly mass-market wines. It has now grown to be one of Argentina’s finest wine producers with a brilliant winemaking team, including legendary Tuscan winemaker Roberto Cipresso, and highly regarded for its limited production wines which are made in the vineyard, not the cellar.

"The 2015 Malbec is very floral and bright mixing grapes from different zones in Mendoza, showcasing the grape in the province. The palate is very elegant, soft, with a fresh note that they tell me might come from some 5% Merlot from Tupungato that is used in the blend. Super!"

"Bright ruby-red. Musky, lightly meaty scents of blackberry, blueberry, mocha and spices; still shows a touch of reduction. Plush, very ripe and chocolatey, with dominant flavors of dark berries, plum, graphite, menthol and spicy oak. Doesn't have quite the class of the Cabernet but sweet, smooth, substantial and alive. The tannins are seamless and fine-grained, and this wine is delicious already." Stephen Tanzer

Lovely deep plum colour. Sweet, inviting nose, with plum, red and black fruit and spice that flow into a lovely aromatic palate with underlying minerality. Big, yet elegant and fresh, with wonderful balance and a finish that goes on and on.

"Achaval-Ferrer, under the direction of CEO Santiago Achaval and winemaker Roberto Cipresso, stands at the summit of Argentina wine producers."
