Estate Notes

Achaval Ferrer's Altamira 2014 is a single vineyard (finca) red and one of the estate's premium labels

Fruit for the Altamira is grown on the prestigious slopes of the Altamira mountain, where low yields from old vines (80 years old) impart concentrated red and black fruit flavours, floral elements, spice and minerality. It is always rich, fresh, opulent, complex and absolutely compelling, and in 2014 the weather leant itself to an even more elegant, refined style.

Achaval Ferrer was established in 1998 by a group of Italian/Argentine friends who wanted to deliver high quality wines that showcased the country’s great soils and climate for vine growing, moving away from its reputation for mainly mass-market wines. It has now grown to be one of Argentina’s finest wine producers with a brilliant winemaking team, including legendary Tuscan winemaker Roberto Cipresso, and highly regarded for its limited production wines which are made in the vineyard, not the cellar.

"...a spectacular acid structure, not as creamy as other years, more vertical. Truly outstanding."

"Ripe and juicy, this provides concentrated flavors of kirsch, blackberry and boysenberry that are loaded with rich spicy notes. Chocolate mousse details ooze on the exuberantly fruity finish." Wine Spectator

"Knockout pure nose combines pungent scents of blackberry liqueur, smoky minerals, mocha and violet. Wonderfully plush, concentrated and seamless but not yet expressing itself. This penetrating Malbec displays subtle sweetness of berry fruit, saline minerality and strong soil character. Very long, spicy, ripe and alive on the aftertaste, with a hint of violet lift. There's a wildness to this very savory wine that should become even more interesting as it ages." Stephen Tanzer

"Achaval-Ferrer, under the direction of CEO Santiago Achaval and winemaker Roberto Cipresso, stands at the summit of Argentina wine producers."
