White Burgundy, 2004

2004 was an average to good Burgundy vintage.

In 2004, late flowering due to a cold spring snap was followed by a cold, damp June and July growing season. Many growers who green harvested produced the more healthy grapes.

To make matters worse, certain Beaune growers were hit by a damaging hailstorm in late August, which wiped out many crops. But for others the sun shone and a dry wind dried out many crops, saving the vintage from being a complete washout. Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits was the pick of the bunch.
