White Burgundy, 1991

1991 was a good red Burgundy vintage, but an average one for white Burgundy.

Despite some untimely rain in September and a hailstorm in August which damaged some of the crop, most Pinot Noir was picked in good conditions. Though generally a little austere in style due to high tannin levels, the best Pinots were rich, complex and concentrated.

A late spring frost and rains in early September caused problems of rot and dilution for Chardonnay growers and reduced yields. However, there were still some good wines made for those who put in plenty of effort in the vineyards and cellars.
