White Burgundy, 1990

1990 was a great year for red Burgundy and an excellent vintage for white Burgundy. A very warm summer with sufficient rainfall to prevent hydric stress, produced healthy bunches of small, ripe, concentrated berries that were picked in optimum conditions.

Pinot Noir fruit was rich and concentrated, with thick fruit, good acidity and sweet tannin to balance. A must buy for true Burgundy lovers.

Chardonnay was slightly less successful than Pinot Noir as its yields were relatively high and grapes lacked a little concentration. A clutch of producers, who restricted their yields and increased concentration, achieved greatness.
