White Burgundy, 1986

1986 was a very good white Burgundy vintage and an average to goodish year for red Burgundy. It was a generally hot, dry summer punctuated by several storms to prevent drought.

White Burgundy was typically concentrated, rich and ripe, yet with elegance and finesse and a nice cut of acidity to keep it fresh.

Pinot Noir was marginally less successful, after being hit by poor weather in the spring and summer. A warm September saved the crop from complete disaster, producing a low crop of quite austere fruit with high tannin levels.
