White Burgundy, 1985

1985 was a very good vintage for both red and white Burgundy, and perhaps the vintage of the decade. Although a harsh winter saw some frost damage, the growing season was long and warm.

A small crop of perfectly ripe berries produced rich, concentrated, fruit-driven Chardonnay with balance and finesse. Pinot Noir produced two distinct styles in 1985: soft and fruit-driven for early drinking, and more serious monolithic styles made for ageing.
