White Burgundy, 1983

1983 was an average and irregular year for both red and white Burgundy, and knowing your producers was even more key than usual. Heavy and persistent rain in the late summer and during the harvest caused much rot, and only those producers who selected rigorously managed to make some good wines.

The majority of Pinot Noir was overly tannic and acidic, though some good wines were made. The majority of the whites were unbalanced with some fruit but little elegance.
