Tuscany, 2001

2001 was an excellent Tuscan vintage, with a hot, dry summer saved from drought by September rains.

The only real downer for the central hills was a mid-April frost which caused some damage and a reduction in yields, but not quality. A cool, dry autumn allowed grapes to be picked at optimum ripeness.

Reds were typically full-bodied reds with excellent ageing potential, and there was a plethora of excellent wines from Chianti Classico in particular.
