Saint-Émilion & Pomerol, 1989

The 1989 Bordeaux vintage came from one of the largest declared crops in the region’s history.

The 1989’s were initially hyped up to be the vintage of the century by almost everyone except the Bordeaux proprietors themselves. Very high tannins and extremely low levels of acidity suggested early drinkability, but there were plenty of rich, concentrated wines, especially in Pauillac and Pomerol, which should continue to age very well for the next ten years or so.
