Rhône Valley, 2007

2007 was an excellent Rhône vintage in the south, particularly for Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe, and slightly less successful in the north, which experienced tricky weather conditions.

In the south, a wet spring was followed by a warm, dry growing season, which produced a large crop of ripe fruit with high alcohol. Though a large crop means less concentration than in great years, it also means that prices will be relatively lower.

Meanwhile the northern Rhône experienced a reverse of these conditions and was largely cool, dreary and wet with some hail damage and rot. A warm, dry harvest made the vintage, and producers who green harvested regularly and took measures against rot, produced healthy grapes and good to very good wines.
