Rhône Valley, 2004

2004 was a very good Rhône vintage across the board. A mild spring and warm summer, with sufficient rain to prevent hydric stress, made for classic gradual ripening conditions, and a relatively small, healthy crop of ripe grapes.

There was a plethora of full-bodied, concentrated, complex Rhône reds, with plenty of tannin to warrant ageing potential. Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe and Cornas were outstanding.
