Rhône Valley, 1995

1995 was an excellent Rhône vintage, the best year since the great 1990 vintage. A long, dry summer, included timely rain to prevent drought and the Mistral blew moisture off the grapes to prevent rot at harvest time. However, yields were down due to coulure (failure of grapes to develop) and millerandage (irregular ripening) during spring flowering.

The best wines in the north (Côte Rôtie) and the south (Gigondas) were full-bodied and tannic for long-term ageing.
