Rhône Valley, 1985

1985 was a very good Rhône vintage, particularly so in the north. Despite a cool spring, a long, hot summer with sufficient August rains to prevent drought, was followed by perfect harvest conditions.

Côte Rôtie and Hermitage excelled in the north, producing wines for long-term cellaring. In the south, Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe and Gigondas produced rich, opulent reds.
