Red Burgundy, 2012

2012 produced a very small crop of excellent Pinot Noir fruit.

Despite a difficult start to the growing season, a fantastic second half saved the day, and was the smallest of three consecutive small crops, under shadowing both 2010 and 2011.

A warm, early spring was followed by a poor early summer, resulting in delayed flowering, coulure,  millerandage and oidium, meaning plenty of work in the vineyards. The weather finally turned and the back end of July, August and early September were gorgeous.

Many of the Pinot Noirs show exceptional concentration and opulence, with a good balance of acidity and tannin for medium- to long-term ageing in bottle.
