Red Burgundy, 2011

2011 was an average to good year for red Burgundy with wines built for the short- to medium-term, despite some tricky weather in the summer with spates of heavy rain and intense heat at times.

Yields were similar 2010, being much, much lower than average as the vines in the Côte de Nuits hadn't recovered from the infamous cold snap of December 2009.

In general, the Pinot Noir lacked the sugars of previous vintages, the best examples being more refined, fresh and elegant with perfumed aromatics, good acidity and pure fruit. However, quality is variable and knowing your producers is key.
