Red Burgundy, 2006

2006 was an irregular Burgundy vintage due to mixed weather. A hot July was followed by a wet, humid August and a warm, dry September. The humidity did the real damage and led to some botrytis, particularly in the Beaune district, which suffered more from the adverse conditions than the Côte de Nuits.

As a result, Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits was the most consistent, but of lesser quality (lacking ripeness) than Beaune whites, which while good (showing excellent balance of vitality and fruit), were patchy due to the conditions. Knowing your producers is especially important in 2006.
