Red Burgundy, 1995

1995 was an excellent year on the whole: a particularly great year for Chardonnay and a good to very good year for Pinot Noir.

Although yields were reduced by coulure during a cold spring, a warm generous summer helped produce a crop of perfectly ripe, healthy grapes, although there was a little rot amongst Pinot and Chardonnay.

White Burgundy was wonderfully rich, ripe, complex and concentrated with plenty of upfront appeal. For red Burgundy, there were some truly great wines made (rich and complex with a brilliance of ripe black fruits), many very good ones, and some a little too tannic for the year.
