Red Burgundy, 1989

1989 was a great year for white Burgundy and a very good one for red Burgundy. A long hot summer with sufficient rain to prevent drought provided ideal conditions for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with the former just pipping the top slot for consistency.

For Pinot Noir, high yields produced fleshy, forward and many delicious wines for early to mid-term drinking. Chardonnay produced a glut of rich, opulent white Burgundy and was particularly impressive at the top end.
