Piedmont, 2010

2010 is a Nebbiolo vintage in Piedmont, with a wet spring resulting in uneven flowering and benign summer, this later ripening variety thrived better than the later ripening Dolcetto and Barbera.

Growers had to work hard in the vineyards in 2010 to combat the effects of frequent spring rains and a wet August and September, and many producers were more than pleased with the quality of fruit, especially in those Nebbiolo vineyards with the best terroir and positions – producing balanced, elegant wines with freshness and acidity. Meanwhile, Dolcetto and Barbera (earlier ripening varieties) struggled to reach ripeness before rot set in.
