1996 was a great vintage for South Australia and Western Australia where both Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz were outstanding. Victoria was also very good, narrowly missing out on top marks due to rains at harvest time. The best reds were fully ripe, concentrated and elegant – beautifully balanced.
