Estate Notes

Ornellaia's 7 hectare Masseto vineyard is sited on a gently sloping hill, and is divided into three sections of varying clay composition; and it is the unique mixture of grapes grown on these micro terroirs that gives this great Super Tuscan its unique aromatics, finesse and balance.

Tenuta dell’Ornellaia is situated in Tuscany's breathtaking Bolgheri district, and the hamlet of Bolgheri affords stunning views reaching out to Corsica on a good day, providing the inspiration and physical climate that help create this legendary wine.

Ornellaia's mild maritime climate, together with very strict controls on quantity, minute attention to detail in vineyard management and rigorous selection, make Ornellaia one of the world's most unique and finest wines. The estate is at the top of Super Tuscan ladder, consistently producing excellent wine in every Tuscan vintage.

Reviews

"Great dark color. Intense aromas of ripe currant, prune, dried fruits and fresh rosemary. Loads of fresh sage and other herbs. Full-bodied, with beautiful tannins. Decadent, yet wonderfully caressing. Fabulous opulence here. Merlot.--1997 Italian blind retrospective." Wine Spectator

"The 1997 is still in great shape. Wow. This is a dazzling Masseto endowed with gorgeous fruit and a sexy, opulent personality. The 1997 isn’t the most complex or complete Masseto, but it sure is hugely pleasurable." eRobertParker.com

"Focused, penetrating aromas of caramel, chocolate, plum and vanilla. Round and caressing on the palate, sweet and silky; flavors of plum and raspberry. Offers lovely texture and volume on the back half. Very elegant and very long, finishing with classy tannins." Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
