Screaming Eagle

Screaming Eagle is one Californian's original cult wines, first created by Jean Philips whose first vintage in 1992 was made in a plastic trash can. Jean took a sample to Robert Mondavi, who thought it good enough to bottle, and the rest is a very illustrious history.

Screaming Eagle is crafted from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, from a vineyard/ pile of rocks east of the Napa River, where high daytime temperatures (to concentrate and ripen fruit) are tempered by cool nights (to give the finished wine elegance and balance). It is, however, incredibly hard to get hold of and only around 500 cases are made each vintage.

"Screaming Eagle remains one of the most compelling estates in Napa Valley. The winery is now under full control of Stan Kroenke. Consultant Andy Erickson is no longer involved in the property but his protege Nic Gislason appears to have the passion and talent to take things to the next level, as impossible a task as that may seem given the profound quality of the wines here...Screaming Eagle is one of those very rare properties where the bottled wine captures the fullest essence of the fruit just as it tastes at harvest, and that is very, very rare." Robert Parker
