"Our goal is simple; to produce wines with a deep mineral structure and a balance between freshness, power and elegance.

To achieve this we focus our work and our energies on achieving true valuation of our land. This means the ground, the climate and a clean environment for farming and harvesting.

At Fondrèche we are convinced that the success of our wines depends on the harmony that we are able to create between these three elements.

We believe you can analyse the soil or a grapevine and get accurate weather data but the knowledge of a
region and the terrior is far more complex than just this. We must learn to understand it and respect it and then develop it through our wines.

We don’t force nature, but work with it. We are not magicians but winemakers. We have long understood that it is the vine that makes the wine and we must work with it to help it grow and develop to make good wines."

Fondreche Vineyard

THE VINEYARD

The 38 hectare vineyard is composed of three sites across three towns; Mazan, Mormoiron and Saint Pierre de Vassols.

The large plot of 28 hectares, mainly used to produce their outstanding red wines is in an area of clay and limestone gravel. Situated on a plateau, the soil filters through the rain but retains the water between five and ten metres below ground level, meaning the vines don’t suffer any water stress.

The other 10 hectare plot sits on soil of sand and silt and allows for the production of white and rosè wines which display qualities of finesse and freshness with moderate alcohol levels.

Working the soil

WORKING THE VINE

The entire vineyard is worked naturally with the aim of creating harmony between the vines, soil and its direct environment.

No chemical weed killer is used so the vines run deep offering better defence against the weather. In fact they believe that encouraging weed growth between rows often help limit erosion, facilitates soil aeration, encourage microbial life and increases the diversity of wildlife across their vineyard sites.
